About us

At Windmill Day Nursery, we believe every child deserves the very best start in life. Our nursery has nurturing, inclusive, and inspiring spaces where children from birth to school age can thrive, explore, and grow into confident, curious learners.

A Place to Blossom

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, offering a rich, play-based curriculum that supports the whole child—body, mind, and emotions. Our environments are thoughtfully designed to spark imagination, encourage independence, and foster a lifelong love of learning. Whether it’s sensory play for babies, creative exploration for toddlers, or collaborative projects for pre-schoolers, every moment at Windmill is an opportunity to discover, connect, and flourish.

How did it all start? Here’s our story

Founded

Joined Lion Cubs Nurseries

Windmill Day Nursery was founded in 2001 by a mother and daughter who converted the longstanding family property into the Windmill nursery that exists today. The property was extended over time to serve the demand of the local community for high quality childcare. The provision at Windmill has achieved recurring “Good” or “Outstanding” Ofsted ratings since inception.

In 2026, Windmill Day Nursery joined the Lion Cubs Nurseries family—a UK-based nursery group committed to bringing together high-quality nurseries while preserving their individuality. This partnership allows us to grow and innovate, while staying true to the values that make Windmill special.

Partnering with Families

We know that strong relationships with parents and carers are key to a child’s success. That’s why we work in close partnership with families from the very beginning. From personalised settling-in sessions to regular updates and online learning journals via Famly, we keep you informed and involved every step of the way. Our open communication, regular feedback, and joyful family events help build a true sense of community.

Caring, Qualified Teams

Our passionate staff are the heart of Windmill. Each child is supported by a dedicated key person who builds a trusting relationship with your family and tailors care to your child’s unique needs. We invest in our team through comprehensive training, career development pathways, and a culture of wellbeing and support. Many of our team members have grown with us—from apprentices to nursery managers—reflecting our commitment to nurturing talent.

Inclusive & Individualised

We celebrate diversity and welcome every child with warmth and respect. Our inclusive approach ensures that children with additional needs receive the support they deserve, with tailored strategies and close collaboration with families and outside professionals. Every child is valued, and every achievement is celebrated.

Nutrition & Wellbeing

Healthy bodies fuel healthy minds. Our meals are freshly prepared on-site using seasonal ingredients, and we follow the latest UK early years nutrition guidance. Mealtimes are relaxed and social, helping children develop independence and positive attitudes toward food. We also prioritise outdoor play, giving children daily opportunities to connect with nature, build resilience, and enjoy physical activity in all seasons.

A Seamless Start

Starting nursery is a big step, and we’re here to make it smooth and joyful. Our settling-in process is designed to ease the transition, with tailored sessions and welcome booklets for each age group. We take time to get to know your child’s routines, preferences, and personality—ensuring they feel safe, seen, and supported from day one.
